Ashley Perkinson brings enthusiasm, experience, and a common sense approach to the services her firm provides in the areas of lobbying and government relations, nonprofit consulting, media law and education law.

As a solo practitioner, Ashley has the flexibility and freedom to work closely with individual clients to develop creative solutions to advance their cause. She enjoys helping people, nonprofit organizations, and businesses achieve their goals, and she firmly believes that trust and communication are the two most important factors in attorney-client relations.

Ashley has practiced as an attorney in North Carolina since 2001. Her legal experience includes work at Everett, Gaskins, Hancock, & Stevens, LLP in Raleigh and Kilpatrick Stockton, LLP in Winston-Salem.

Ashley is frequently tapped as a legal resource on wide range of topics and is repeatedly recruited via community and business referrals to presents workshops, trainings and webinars. She is eager to assist others and is constantly researching and participating in professional studies. Ashley is committed to providing the latest knowledge and advice, and she is dedicated to advocating for improvements and advancements for her clients.

A native of North Carolina, Ashley resides in Raleigh with her husband, Sterling, and her daughters, Tess and Margot.  She enjoys playing the piano and clarinet, reading Proust and making chocolates.

Nonprofit Consulting
Ashley advises and consults nonprofits on a broad array of issues such as formation, resource development and grant writing, tax-exemption, charitable solicitation, IRS compliance, bylaws and policies, board governance, employment and staffing, contract development and review, project consulting, lobbying and advocacy. Ashley´s experience in the nonprofit sector goes beyond her client work and is exhibited through her extensive volunteer commitments and community leadership.


Government Relations
She has historically excelled in the area of government relations and has a strong record of achievements. Her love of policy and governmental issues began during her undergraduate years when she served as a White House intern in the West Wing Press Office under President Bill Clinton and Press Secretary Mike McCurry.  Ashley also served as a Congressional intern for Representative Howard Coble during college and previously worked as a legislative office assistant at the North Carolina General Assembly. In addition, she has served as campaign manager for a Congressional candidate.


Lobbying
As lobbyist for the North Carolina PTA, Ashley helped secure funding to establish, continue, and expand the NCPTA Parent Involvement Initiative.  She has extensive experience lobbying on behalf of education funding.  Among her accomplishments, Ashley successfully lobbied to substantially amend the Licensed Professional Counselors licensure law on behalf of the Licensed Professional Counselors Association of North Carolina.


Education Law
As a graduate of the Education Policy Fellowship Program and longtime lobbyist and advocate on education issues, Ashley's practice focuses on complex educational law issues, including special needs and exceptional children's advocacy.


Media Law
Ashley has an educational background in journalism and previously practiced in the media law section of Everett, Gaskins, Hancock, and Stevens.  She currently serves as the Legislative Chair of the NC Constitutional Rights and Responsibilities Section Council which focuses on First Amendment issues. She worked at a television station while studying at the UNC School of Journalism and Mass Communication and was named Outstanding Graduating Senior in Electronic Communications.
